Kirby Signature Series Comparison: V530 vs C530 vs C550
Short answer: if most of your home is carpet and you like pushing an upright, buy the V530. If your floors are a real mix of carpet and hard surface, buy the C550. If you're mostly hard floors with some area rugs, buy the C530 and don't feel like you settled.

The one thing to understand first
All three Signature Series machines have the same 1200-watt suction motor and the same 131 CFM airflow rating. Same filtration — PureAir Dual HEPA. Same 4-speed airflow dial. Same 8-year limited warranty.
So you are not choosing how much suction you get. You're choosing two things:
- The nozzle — whether the brush roll has its own motor, and how wide and adjustable it is. This is what determines carpet performance.
- The format — upright you push, or canister you pull.
Once you see it that way the decision gets much simpler, because those two questions have obvious answers for your house.

Four things the spec sheet won't tell you
1. The V530 is the cheapest way to get Kirby's best nozzle. The V530 and the C550 use the identical cleaning head — same 13.5-inch width, same six height settings, same 250-watt brush motor, same 8,900 RPM. The V530 costs $200 less. If carpet performance is what you're paying for and you don't specifically need the canister format, the upright is the better value of the two.
2. "Air-powered" isn't a euphemism, but it does have a limit. The C530's turbo nozzle spins its brush with the airflow instead of a motor. That makes it lighter, simpler, and quieter, and on hard floors and area rugs it does the job properly. What it can't do is generate the same agitation down in deep pile. If you have wall-to-wall carpet, this is the spec that should move you up to the C550.
3. The quiet difference is bigger than the numbers look. The C530 runs at 58.2 dBA and the V530 at 66. That's only about eight decibels on paper, but a 10 dB change is roughly what most people hear as halving the volume — so the gap is closer to "noticeably quieter room" than "slightly quieter vacuum." If you vacuum around a baby, a nervous dog, or somebody on a headset all day, it matters.
4. Weight is not the same thing as effort. The V530's main unit is the lightest of the three at 12.1 pounds, which is why it carries up stairs easily. But an upright's weight is what you push across the floor, while a canister's 14.5 pounds rolls along behind you on wheels. Lighter on the scale doesn't always mean lighter in the hand — and this is exactly the kind of thing you should judge by pushing all three around our showroom for five minutes.

The carpet machine. Powered Multi-Surface Power Nozzle with six height settings, a 40-foot cleaning radius that covers most of a floor from one outlet, LumiGuide LEDs, and an onboard stretch hose for stairs and upholstery. Main unit 12.1 lbs.
Kirby C530 Premium Canister — $749
The hard-floor machine, and the quiet one at 58.2 dBA. Comes with both a dedicated hard floor nozzle and an air-powered turbo nozzle for rugs. Same suction motor and filtration as the other two.

The do-everything machine. Powered nozzle for carpet plus a hard floor nozzle and a turbo air brush, so you change heads instead of changing vacuums. Available in Pure Platinum and Kirby Blue.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which Kirby Signature Series vacuum is best?
There isn't one. They're built for different floors. The C550 is the most capable across the widest range of surfaces, the V530 is the strongest value if your home is carpet-heavy, and the C530 is the right machine — not a compromise — for homes that are mostly hard floors.
What's the real difference between the C530 and the C550?
The nozzle, and that's it. The C550's Multi-Surface Power Nozzle has its own 250-watt motor, six height settings and a 13.5-inch path. The C530's turbo nozzle is spun by airflow, has one height setting and an 11-inch path. Motor, airflow, filtration, radius, bag capacity and warranty are identical.
Is the V530 or the C550 better for carpet?
They use the same cleaning head, so carpet performance is comparable. Choose the V530 if you prefer an upright and want the longer 40-foot reach; choose the C550 if you'd rather pull a canister, have a lot of stairs, or want the hard floor nozzle and turbo brush included.
Do all three take the same bags?
No. The V530 upright and the canisters use different PureAir HEPA filter bags. We stock both, and each vacuum ships with a 3-pack to start you off.
Are these the Kirby sold door to door?
No. The Signature Series is Kirby's retail line, designed and engineered in Cleveland and manufactured overseas to Kirby's specifications, which is why we can sell it over the counter at a published price. The in-home demonstration machine is the Avalir Platinum Home Cleaning System, and it's a different product — see above.
Do you service these?
Yes, at our bench on Harlem Street. That includes warranty work, so you don't box the machine up and mail it anywhere.
